The objective
of this online exhibit
of "A Peace Of..." is to:
- To showcase visual artistic representations (photo, painting, writing, video, illustration, any medium)
- Showcase pieces exploring effect/affect of peace; and/or why there is a need for peace - how war and violence affect us all
Some types of work themes could include:
- What does peace look like?
- What does peace mean to you personally and in your community?
- How do you question the meaning of peace?
- How do you explore peace via artwork?
- Works inspired by peace demonstrations.
- How we connect and disconnect with peace and violence, healing and grieving?
- Inspirations to continue manifesting peaceful lives even in the face of war.
- Raising awareness about politics, elections, ourselves as “The People”
- Art as Peacemaker, teacher, voice of the oppressed, effect of war/violence
- Because war/violence affect us, how does our community address constant need for recovery & healing. Are we served well by art in being this versed in grief and healing?
- Would we lose the need for art if there were peace?
- And what might it mean for all of us if we instead lived in a non-violent world, how much more productive, artistic, developed would we be as a species?
Arts from any discipline are welcome for consideration: painting, photography, tiles, fabric arts, illustration, sculpture, collage, digital works, ATCs and more. I'm even glad to consider poetry or bits of writing -- would especially love if writings were incorporated into some kind of design or visual art that is sent in as a jpg. We'll even consider YouTube type videos that we can code into the blog -- for those of you who might have vid of spoken word or music or short film. So I do mean "any discipline" that can be shown in some way on the blog! Because this is an online exhibit, we will not require the actual physical piece of art, but instead really good digital representation of the piece we can display here on the blog and in promotion pieces for the exhibit.
Submissions are now closed.

We continue to go about our daily lives, as if Peace for us is our God-given right and cannot be shattered, even if the "rest of the world" finds it illusory. I think projects like this one are important. We need to step back and remind ourselves that Peaceful acts can generate calming ripples.
Thank you Mother Henna.
This is a wonderful project. Even if it doesn't bring peace to our earth, which would be a tremendous job, it would at least bring peace within those of us who participate. I would like to participate and hope it isnt too late to sign up.
It definitely is *not* too late to participate at all! The online exhibit part of the project is ongoing and indefinite (as long as I have the breath and internet access to keep it going :P), so at this time there is no deadline, end date, etc.
For the physical exhibit here on Vashon Island, there will eventually be deadline for submission and gallery show date -- just because that's the nature of a physical exhibit.
Miracles to all of you -- and can't wait to see your art, too!

You are amazing. How do you do all? Thanks for showing me that I'm not crazy to want to do more, to desire to give more, be more or in words of your recent post, a desire for authenticity.
This sounds wonderful, Kara.
I will have to think about this.
I have done many protect piece that have been more about violence than peace--the negative effects of violence, but I do have a few peace ones and it'd be fun to make new ones, too.
Mary
PS--let me know about that heART thing, as I may change the whole post to include the other poem(s) and some art.
I have peace poetry too that I could maybe make into an integrated peace, lol.
Welcome, Mary! Thanks for your feedback and comment here. I just revised the call post a little to try and be more explicit about possibilities for pieces.
We definitely want the peaceful, but we also are very open to explorations of why peace is something we still have to work toward. How does violence and war affect us, what do we look like when in a constant cycle of grief and recovery, etc. So please don't feel inhibited at all in submitting pieces that are exploring the reasons we are still talking about peace more than fully living it!
And I did see your At the Edge piece and think it is totally perfect for this exhibit. Will send you email in just a moment with more about that.
Many thanks!!!
